Suggested Nutritional Supplements

This might be a little different to what you’re expecting.

As opposed to pre or post workout supplements, body building supplements and so forth… let’s just talk about some inexpensive resources you can pick up at the supermarket to help ensure that you meet your requirements as consistently as possible.

Fiber: Fiber is a real difference maker. It’s important for your digestive health and getting an adequate amount will make a noticeable difference to your body composition as well… assuming of course you are meeting suitable total calorie and macro targets.

Now, ideally you’ll get the bulk of your fiber from nutritious food choices. Fruits, vegetables, whole grains and so forth…. if you do find you run a little short, well this is exactly what “supplementation” is all about. There are a few “weight loss fiber” type supplements available but don’t be fooled… a $2 bag of wheat bran from the supermarket is all you need.

Dietary Fats: Why on Earth would we supplement fats, you may well ask. Well… you’ve read and heard me talk often enough about the importance of meeting a minimum total calorie target. Particularly with some of my more active clients who train and perform at quite an advanced level, that minimum target is quite the astronomical amount. In fine tuning for a particular client I may find that within this total calorie target, a higher percentage of calories from dietary fats is advantageous. In either case it can be helpful to have access to a relatively high amount of calories in a relatively small serve… and preferably one that contains some fiber and micronutrients as well.

Sounds expensive? Nope… my favourite and most delicious choice is a $2 bag of desiccated coconut from the spices aisle of the local supermarket.

It occurred to me as I was uploading this video… it’s a bit funny that while everyone else is trying to restrict intake and promote “very low calorie” diets, here’s me giving suggestions for an easy way to add an extra 90 calories  to your post workout shake, which you probably need.
