Oh man… I’ve been loving a bit of facebook drama these past few weeks. It turns out, there’s actually quite a few reputable, ethical and sensible people in the business, producing great results for their clients without the restrictive, damaging and dangerous dieting approaches I’ve been speaking out against on this site.
That’s great, because it means I’m actually networking with a few more industry people again after quitting all of the PT business networks I used to participate in towards the end of last year, coincidentally about the time I started building this site.
So what’s kinda cool is seeing these other guys and girls taking it to the idiots in the industry who push broscience, restrictive methods and potentially damaging approaches, much in the same way as I do here. I’m glad I’m not the only one fighting the good fight.
Oh, what does “broscience” mean though? Picture your stereotypical gym meat head talking to his meat head friend about “protein bro, you have to have protein within the anabolic window or you lose your gains bro”, for example. Latching on to some big words, trying to sound like they have some advanced level of knowledge, when really failing to understand much of anything. I call it troll science when it comes from internet know it alls and especially industry people trying to act like they’re the only one who knows how stuff works, and what everyone else thinks is wrong and outdated.
And there’s the problem. These guys (and a few girls) are actually not idiots as we like to treat them. They’re actually very clever and perhaps a little devious, because while they do appear to have knowledge of some advanced level stuff in terms of thermogenic properties, hormonal responses to different foods and how these factors may influence our propensity to store fat even at lower calorie levels… they’re deliberately overstating the significance of these factors to create the impression that it is NOT as simple as “just eat the right amount overall with your choice of foods”, and the only way you’re ever going to get this right is if you buy their book, or program, or whatever.
The only issue is… just like I’ve kept saying over and over again, there are millions of people who are NOT overweight or obese, despite not knowing to avoid all of these “bad” foods and only eat from this list of good foods with all these magical properties at only these times of the day. So, they can condescendingly tell proponents of IIFYM or Flexible Dieting principals “that doesn’t work because calories isn’t the issue, you have to take all of these other more important factors that you don’t understand into account” all they like, but what they can’t explain is why IT ACTUALLY DOES WORK, time and time again.
If you’re doing the free program on this site, you know this already because you’re already seeing results from it. If you want to ask any of the ladies who’ve already completed (or are part way through) my DHPT Coaching Via Email program, they’ll tell you that I did not give them any restrictions in food choices whatsoever, only targets for total calories and macronutrient ratios. They’ll also tell you that there was plenty of room within those recommendations for a little of whatever the hell they felt like eating; pizza and ice cream included. Go ahead and ask them. Most of them have their own blogs and are way more famous than I am, due to the incredible transformations they’ve achieved (with a little of my help of course) and the whole point is that they have had such a tremendous amount of success without any of the restrictive approaches less scrupulous people would have you believe are necessary.
